February Photo Gallery: Couple, Forward, Current
Every month, Garb’s photography team will interpret and shoot under a new theme, each photographer working to create a series of images that represent their own perspectives on a given topic. This month we took on a unique way of thinking about things, pulling three random words from an online word generator and following a traditional February color palette of red, white, and pink. Here are our takes on “COUPLE”, “FORWARD”, and “CURRENT”.
Progression - Anna Chang | @annachang1210
“For this shoot, I wanted to focus on the randomly-generated concept of "current" and "forward". I hope the images convey a juxtaposed feeling of stillness despite movement. Though life continues to press forward, we must pause and reflect on the present.”
Not Your Valentine - Amanda Luong | @aamandaluong
“I wanted to focus on making the red create a striking contrast against the background that I muted a lot during editing. I was also keeping the word “forward” in my mind, thinking about maybe an ex or someone who isn’t in her life anymore is calling, which is why the photos show her hanging up or fed up while on the phone because we are prioritizing ourselves this 2021.”
a pairing to dine for - Jenna Wong | @jennz_wong
“For this project, I focused on the word “couple.” I attempted to incorporate several dimensions of coupling, from the two wine glasses to the mirroring of elements and their shadows. Playing with a narrative of an unresolved dinner engagement, we are witness to her longing for an absent guest that would complete her pair.”
Eat Your Heart Out - Lilian Zhou | @spinachdiplil
“Happy valentines”
From Me and Mine- Sierra Margolis | @sierramarphoto
“This was my first project in a while, and it felt really special and empowering to shoot, style, model, and edit it all on my own. Happy Valentine’s Day from me and mine!”
