Disco on the Daily
Disco is back baby.
Events like ABBA night (held at the Cornerstone) are now bringing the boogie back in force and I for one, am here for it.
When I think of Disco fashion, images of sequins and jumpsuits paired with flashy sunglasses and chunky heels pop up in my imagination. For one time events like ABBA night, these can be really chic looks! However, elements of Disco outfits can also be integrated into everyday fashion. Before clicking off, hear me out. Disco fashion doesn’t necessarily have to be super flashy or covered in sequins in glitter, but throwing on some nice flair jeans or even some unique sunglasses can add a little pep in your step as you walk to class OR can even turn heads at your local disco dance party.
Here are some ideas that can that can release your inner disco queen:
Flare Jeans
Flare Jeans have remained a symbol of disco culture since its beginnings. And I wholeheartedly believe that this is the perfect way to subtly add a flair of disco into your fashion without going the full nine yards (glitter, tie-dye, you know). Pair them with some hightops and you’re ready to go! *Not to mention that flare jeans can go normally with any everyday outfit if you’re just not feeling in the disco mood.
Where to buy:
Jumpsuits
A big component of disco fashion were jumpsuits typically loaded with sequins or glitter. While I’d personally love to wear one of those, it’s probably not the best decision to wear one on a Tuesday morning 8am (although it would be pretty iconic). Instead, here are a few jumpsuits that still give off a vintage vibe, but in a much more wearable way.
Where to buy:
The Jan Jumpsuit ($98)
BDG Flare Coveralls ($110)
You can also easily thrift overalls and coveralls too! I’d highly suggest Buffalo Exchange or if you have the time and want to make a fun day trip, Haight Ashbury in San Francisco has amazing thrift stores with plenty of disco attire!
Shoes
Whether you’re going to a disco night at your local club or just walking around campus, you’re going to need some shoes to add some style to your stride. Here are a few that I believe are perfect for any scenario.
Where to buy:
Accessories
And last but not least, the final touch to your ‘casual disco outfit’ are some cool accessories to tie everything together. I find that the best way to add in some subtle additions is through sunglasses or even makeup. This way, you can stride along in style, similar to the iconic John Travolta scene in Saturday Night Fever, but with some ‘funky’ glasses or even a little bit of disco glitter too.
Where to buy:
70s Round Sunglasses ($10.99)
