Childhood Comebacks
Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve spent so much time in my childhood bedroom this year, maybe it's the natural cycle of fashion, or maybe kids just know the best styles. Whatever the reason, I’ve noticed recently that the styles from my childhood are coming back. From wearing merchandise from our favorite cartoons, to bright colors and fun hairstyles, trends lately have been paying homage to our youth, and it's time to embrace that!
Hairstyles:
While I hated sitting for my mom to do my hair when I was little, there’s nothing I loved more now than a cute hairstyle to make any look complete from head to toe. Elementary school days were full of pig-tails and glitter clips, and these trends have come back fast. Some of my favorite styles lately have been half up half down pig-tails and bubble braids, or i’ll simply add some butterfly clips or a bandana. If they can keep your hair in place for a game of tag, these styles and accessories will definitely be able to keep you looking cute while also keeping your hair out of your face throughout study sessions and classes!
Accessories:
Field trip days meant one thing for me growing up: bucket hats and tiny sunglasses. They kept the sun off my face, but were also an adorable addition to my fleece zip ups and bermuda shorts. While they’re worn more for style than practicality these days, bucket hats and vintage glasses have flooded my pinterest page. They’re cute, useful, and can hide a bad hair day or yesterdays makeup with ease! These trendy accessories can be found on every corner, but some of my go to places have been my mom’s closet, Tillys, and Amazon.
Chunky Sneakers:
They were perfect for running around the playground, and now they’re great for walking down bancroft. Chunky sneakers are both practical and stylish. Their versatility is unmatched. Whether they are paired with a dress or worn with jeans, they are the perfect addition to any outfit. Whether it’s a pair of AF1s, or dino stomper Filas, these seemingly basic additions are truly the perfect way to complete any outfit.
Cartoon Shirts:
Although they weren’t typically worn cropped, cartoon t-shirts were a defining part of playground apparel. Getting to show off our favorite TV shows on our shirts was a great conversation starter back then, and the same is true now! If you’re wanting to jump back into this style but are unsure of where to purchase one, some go to places to find them are etsy, thrift shops, Target, and Hot Topic!
Kids don’t care if their outfits are unusual or different, if they like it it’s a good outfit. This is the mindset I think we should all take as we plunge into Fall. Don’t be afraid to wear something bold or youthful! Try out some styles from your childhood! It’s time to pull out the Hey Arnold T shirt and embrace your inner child!
