Pop of Color
With the end of the season right around the corner, many people feel the need to reinvent themselves with new clothing. Spring cleaning, we’ve all heard of it and frankly the chaos stresses me out. If you're as attached to your clothes as me though, you can switch it up in other ways. I find that the easiest way to transition through the seasons is to switch up my makeup look. I know it sounds extremely simple, but with affordable brands like ColourPop becoming more mainstream, colorful makeup is the next best thing.
We are in luck to be in an era where eccentric makeup looks are embraced and encouraged. So! You no longer have an excuse to avoid ocean blue eyeshadow or cotton candy pink lipstick? It’s just makeup! If you don’t like it, wipe it off and try again! Feel like looking like a sleek spy one day and a blushing cartoon the next? Easy peasy lemon squeezy! The options and inspiration are endless. The hardest step is starting and not getting overwhelmed with the plethora of options. Let's get started!
First grand decision: where do you want your main pop(s) of color? Some people make the rule that if you have a bold eye, your lips cannot follow suit. But I say, why not just let your creativity flow! Match a colorful eyeliner with a bright lip or a bold eye look with blush going across your cheeks and nose. However, if you’re feeling a bit more lowkey, pop some color in the inner corner of your eyes or your lower lash line. Or if you want to be seen from the space station, add some clear or colored glitter and gloss. Mix and match, give yourself butterflies!
Your next big decision is the color palette! Something that has interested me in my journey to bolder makeup looks is finding a way to embrace my natural features while also baking a full cake. One way I do this is by making my eyes pop with the colors I use. To make blue eyes pop, use a deep blue, pink, fuchsia, or burgundy color scheme. For brown eyes, turn to purple, bronze, teal, and gold. When it comes to green eyes, gold, wine, taupe, grey, and purple are the way to go. Apart from this, you can also work with the color wheel to create different illusions. Match your new season mood by experiment with looks from rainbow or monochrome colors.
You can also accentuate your beauty marks or freckles. I do this by either using ‘freck’ or an eyebrow pencil to just go over them. It’s time to embrace all of yourself!
The main point to remember when making your masterpiece is to enjoy yourself and feel confident in your new looks. The benefit of these makeup looks is they can dress up any look and make it match any theme! So sit down, turn on some music, and enjoy coloring!
