Men's Fall 19 Essential Statement Pieces
Fall is finally upon us, and those waiting to bust out their sweaters and thigh high boots can jump for joy. With Paris Fashion Week just concluding, there is a pretty good sense of what this fall and winter theme is going to be based off of. Here are a couple of essential statement pieces for the fall 2019 season:
THE OVERSIZED BLAZER
The oversized trend is refusing to go away and it’s all over a menswear staple: blazers. Take it up a few notches in size and your look will shoot up a few notches along with it. Whether it’s pinstripes (a personal favorite), checks, or just plain colors, there are extensive varieties available, depending on how flamboyant your personality is. All you have to do is pair it with a simple tee, your favorite pair of pants, and you’re good to go.
Remember: large and in charge.
WHERE TO BUY:
Thrift stores offer extensive options and are generally cheaper.
If thrifting is not your scene or you’re just more of an online shopper:
THE BAGGY WORK PANT
I love baggy pants.
DISCLAIMER: there’s a difference between baggy and oversized; baggy means clothes of your size but the fit is loose, while oversized means you’re wearing a size that is not yours and the fit is varied (usually regular/skinny/tapered etc.).
I love baggy pants. Did I say that already? With the dad shoe trend still very much apparent going into 2020, baggy work pants (or chinos and other variations) fall perfectly onto your chunky foot coverings. The best part about baggy pants: they’re just way too comfy.
Just ask skaters.
WHERE TO BUY:
THE DAD BOOT
Investing in a good pair of boots is equivalent to possessing a secret talent: you don’t use them all the time but when you do, they come in handy. Boots are necessary when that Berkeley rain commences and what could be more essential than necessities? If you’re not over that chunky dad shoes fad, then step it up with chunky dad boots. Yes, they’re a thing. No, they are not ridiculous.
And yes.
You will wear them more than once.
That’s the best part. It’s a statement piece that you can wear perpetually. How’s that for versatile?
WHERE TO BUY:
THE FEDORA
Fedoras have dovetailed in and out of trends as frequently as iPhone releases but still arguably remain the most fashionable headpiece.
The common misconception of fedoras is that it commonly is seen as a staple hipster wear. Here’s why. Hipsters love traveling and the weather gets treacherous and unpredictable on travels. Guess what? Fedoras were originally invented for use in bad weather. The well-constructed leather material blocks out those gusty winds and heavy snow.
That’s substance plus style. Such an equation never gets old.
