How to Channel Your Inner Rachel Green

Don’t lie, we’ve all watched Friends and envied just how perfect Rachel Green was. I mean, seriously, she worked for Bloomingdale’s, Ralph Lauren and (spoiler alert) almost went to Paris to work for Louis Vuitton! Even though us Cal students don’t get out of the Berkeley bubble much, that doesn’t mean we can’t look fashionable in Moffitt. From the classic crop top to the school girl aesthetic, Rachel was THE fashion icon of 90’s sitcoms and her outfits are slowly but surely coming back into style. After a long binge session and one too many cups of coffee, I know just how you can channel your inner Rachel Green.

Denim Overload

There’s no surprise that vintage denim is the way to go for the ultimate 90’s throwback. Rachel was famous for her many denim looks including the classic overalls or chambray button down. There are many types of overalls online, but the most rachel-esque ones are the light washed Levi’s that can be paired with a simple tank top and a cross body bag. Overalls were a must-have back in the day, so I would suggest hitting up thrift or consignment stores before you break the bank! On the other hand, the chambray shirt is a closet essential that can be styled with almost anything. If you want to add Rachel’s girly touch, try tying the bottom of the chambray shirt into a little knot! Just make sure to leave the coffee house apron back home ;)

Girl Next Door

With everyone wanting to date her, or actually BE her, Rachel Green was the ultimate Girl Next Door. She wore countless outfits that highlighted her sweet and quirky personality, but some personal favorites of mine were some of her school girl looks. You can accomplish this style with cute turtlenecks or fluffy sweaters paired with a plaid mini skirt and long over-the-knee socks to match. This outfit looks best with your favorite pair of black booties or even Mary Jane heels. As the weather gets colder, this is perfect for fall to keep you warm! The best part about Rachel’s lovely collection of skirts is how easy it is to go from a daytime to nighttime look. Just switch out the plaid for a black mini skirt with opaque tights, and you’ve got a flattering outfit to whip out for your next date night (or networking event, let’s be real).

Central Perk

When she wasn’t working at the coffee house or slaying as assistant buyer, Rachel’s casual looks were to die for. Some of her fan favorites were the crop top and high waisted jeans combo or the oversized crew neck. These simple outfits are perfect for your 8am or just running errands around Berkeley when you’re in a rush, but still want to be in style. Don’t know where to find these key pieces? Try checking out some great spots like Brandy Melville, Cotton On, or Urban Outfitters. Keep an eye out for fun quotes, college gear, or sports teams for that Rachel Green vibe. As much of a princess Rachel was, she had tomboy looks that were still as stylish as ever. Pro tip: try adding a scrunchie in your hair or tying a sweater around your waist for that extra 90s touch! Accessorizing is key to a throwback thursday fit.

And there you have it, 3 different types of looks inspired by the one and only, FRIENDS fashion queen, Rachel Green. 90’s style is back and better than ever, so if you haven’t already, start stocking up on denim, mini skirts and crew necks. Ladies, I’m sure we can all agree that any of these fits will make a boy wish you were never “on a break.” Now if you’ll excuse me, back to my binge watching.
