Denim on Denim on Denim

You know you want the D.

D as in DENIM.

Who doesn’t like denim? Not only is it versatile, comfortable (okay not as comfortable as athleisure..), and easy to throw on, but if styled the right way, can also look effortlessly glamorous. Here are 10 ways to incorporate denim into your wardrobe in 2018.

1. Layer

Feeling cold this winter? Layer your denim. Don’t be scared to wear denim on denim! The key when wearing multiple denim pieces together is choosing different shades of blue. For example, if wearing dark wash jeans, wear a lighter jean jacket or button down chambray shirt. You can also pair a black jean jacket with your everyday blue wash jean. If you aren’t feeling as frisky, go for a layered look without the double denim. Denim button-ups look trim peeping out under thick winter sweaters.

2. Accessorize

Who says denim has to be an article of clothing? Display your denim as a baseball cap, shoes, or a scarf. And if you still want to wear these denim accessories with jeans, go for it! Since denim jeans are staples in a polished closet, incorporating denim accessories adds a unique kick to your outfit. You can style a denim baseball cap with a turtleneck sweater, or go for a long sleeved t-shirt and leather jacket. You can also pair your denim accessories with a sherpa lined denim jacket, plain v-neck t-shirt, and some dainty jewels for a laid-back look (see no. 1 to style denim on denim).

3. Fashion Flare

Feeling daring (flaring)? Channel your inner 70’s by slipping into a pair of flare jeans. If you are scared that flare jeans may look like something your mom once wore in high school, don’t panic! They are back in style - turns out your momma was a fashionista (and maybe still is, like mine!). You can match a pair of high-waisted flare jeans with a looser striped, cropped top to reveal only an inch of skin, or an embroidered white blouse and a pair of platforms for some bohemian vibes (#Berkeley). Also, bonus points if your flare jeans are unhemmed or cropped.

4. Flaunt That Booty

Want to be a Kardashian for a day? Flaunt your curves by embracing a pair of Levi’s wedgie fit jeans that hug your hips like a second skin. Add something as simple as a black bodysuit or belt to emphasize your waist even further... à la Kim!

5. Ditch the Pants

Have a spring in your step? Don a denim dress with a neutral cardigan and slides, or a button-up denim skirt with an off the shoulder t-shirt or sweater and a pair of pointy-toe, lace-up flats for a feminine feel. If that impending midterm season chill is keeping you cold, layer a pair of sheer or thick tights under your skirt or dress.

6. Rock the One Piece

Who said overalls are just for farmers? Anyone can rock a pair of overalls. Layer overalls over a simple white t-shirt or flannel with a pair of sneakers. Choose a pair that are flared or unhemmed for some extra fun, or wear a jumpsuit (with a couple buttons undone) with a pair of brown booties if you want to wear a different kind of a denim one piece. Since spring is just around the corner, you can also sport denim overall shorts or skirts with booties and a wide-brim hat.

7. Dress It Up

Going out? Dress up your denim! Wear distressed black jeans with knee slits, a pair of glitter heels, a faux fur coat, and red lips for your night out in the city. Faux fur and glitter can transform the pair of jeans you throw on before your 8am to a look that is Hollywood glam worthy.

8. Haas(sssssss)ify

Need to interview for a consulting club right after class? Wear a clean pair of white or black jeans with a wrapped blouse, heels, and a blazer to look and feel ~sophisticated~. Employers will not second guess your seriousness with an outfit this refined!

9. DIY

Make your denim jacket or bomber unique by ironing on colorful patches and decorating the coat with pins. If you are cold, add moto boots and layer a hoodie under the jean jacket. This look is perfect if you feel like incorporating denim into your outfit, but would rather throw on a pair of joggers instead of jeans.

10. Make it Timeless

Throw on a pair of boyfriend jeans with a simple white t-shirt, light leather jacket, and stylin’ sneakers for a chic look that will never fail you (and will not go out of style anytime soon). Everyone will think you look exceptionally classy, while you secretly know this look is effortless.

As you can see, there are countless ways to wear your denim. Whether you define your style as classy, casual, preppy, or sexy, you can always find a new way to dress in denim. Seize 2018 with these ten lovable looks!
